Dr. Cappaert is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. He received his PhD from the University of Toledo in Clinical Exercise Physiology and has taught at the graduate and undergraduate-level in the following topic areas: research methods/statistics, athletic training, exercise physiology, anatomy and physiology, exercise testing and wellness. He has clinical experience in athletic training, physical rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and in fitness and wellness programming.

Dr. Cappaert serves on the Editorial board of the Journal of Athletic Training, the Athletic Training Education Journal, the Journal of College Science Teaching and is a manuscript reviewer for several other journals. He is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Certified Strength and Conditional Specialist (CSCS) and an ACSM Certified Exercise Specialist.

Research interests include environmental cold injury, endurance training and lumbar spine injuries in athletes.

The relationships between the visual and fine-motor systems are first examined by identifying the components of eye-hand mechanisms separately and then together. The functional relevance of skill development for activities of self-help, play, and learning is correlated with areas of occupational performance such as ADLs, IADLs, education, play, leisure and social participation. Finally, the case method is used to apply an Operational Model for Eye-Hand Intervention and a Clinical Observations of Skill Development Model. Both models can be useful in gathering, analyzing, applying, synthesizing and evaluating data to guide treatment programs for children with a variety of disabilities.

This course is designed to present an overview of hand preference in terms of cultural, social, evolutional, historical, gender, genetic and environmental factors. Normal components of hand preference are examined from the perspectives of sensory-motor development and hemispheric specialization. Informal and formal assessments are illustrated by case studies, which then present examples of how “handedness” problems can be identified and managed.

I always take the time during this month to reflect about the profession I chose and am thankful for the diversity our profession can bring to us if we look for it…I would have never conceived the enormity of different paths OT’s can take once they complete their university studies, and one may start on one path and move differently on several roads to where they end up.

P.S. Update on my interviewing/video of the development of my family tree  project with my mother I spoke of in my last blog….it was awesome! I heard funny stories about her family, siblings and grandparents. Priceless experience….

Aaah…March, it has been such a busy month for with so many things to celebrate…Athletic trainer’s month, Crazy sports with March Madness, and baseball winding up….personally we celebrated birthdays,

a marriage &  family vacation time! In anticipation of the spring, renewals of all kinds, April right around the corner (some of you may read this and it will be April already )

It is so hard to believe that spring is upon us and the first quarter of the year is over!

So I guess with life occasions whether good or bad, we need to continually take note of the small gifts of the each day and “Be Here Now” while breathing deeply. One of the gifts that we do not honor enough is our

senior population, who have a wealth of knowledge, insight and history! Two wonderful story’s with videos (of course) came to me recently…

One is this beautiful story/video that was posted on YouTube called…64th anniversary/ Vow Renewal/ 100th Birthday … Please take a moment to watch and marvel at this splendid loving couple who were ballroom dancers

never had a proper Jewish wedding and at the same time celebrated HER 100th birthday! It is precious!

Another astounding, encouraging story/video recently that also gives us the message that it is never too late is the article about Olga Kotelko, the 91 year old Track & Field athlete, and watch the following video…NOW…NO MORE

complaining of aches and pains!! Olga Koltelko in Action.

And for me…I am honoring my 87 yr old mother this weekend as we begin to trace our heritage and ancestry! I will video some of this,  so I can always remember, and my children can remember! 

Do something with one of the special elders in your life this spring!  Interview a senior/parent /grandparent that may still be in your life, about their life experiences….capture their precious voices and messages on tape.

That will be a gift that keeps on giving!

Spring has sprung, so it seems,  and so have updates to our accreditation’s for PT’s!!

We are so excited to be able to offer you a link in our website that will give you updates to our Physical Therapy Accreditation for CEU’s by State….

I wanted to provide some other quick reminders for you regarding all disciplines:

First, keep in mind some General Rule of Thumb for PT CE:

• At this time, there is no national accreditation process for CE provider with regards to PT through APTA (American Physical Therapy Association), however, states are affiliates of APTA.
• Therefore, Dynamic must go state by state to submit as indicated based on the specific PT State Board Rule and comply with only those states that REQUIRE Prior Approval of our courses.
• Other states accept our courses because we are approved in many PT states, called Reciprocity…SO, no courses need to be submitted, as they are approved based on our approvals in other states.
• Licensees are required to obtain CEU in most states biannually, but some states required assistants to submit annually.

(Caveats to keep in mind…Regarding states that all licensees are due on the same date on an Even or Odd year, Dynamic submits appropriate courses for the year they are due ONLY, knowing that therapists most likely will NOT be thinking about their CEU needs until the year they are due.)

In addition, here is a General Rule of Thumb for OT and SLP CE:

• As national approved providers to both AOTA and ASHA, those courses that are approved are clearly stated on our courses; these are the images you will see proudly displayed
